Prof. Wolfgang Gubisch
Prof. Wolfgang Gubisch was born in 1949 in Rottweil/Germany, graduated from high school in 1968 with distinction. After studying medicine in Stuttgart, Tübingen and Zurich, holding a scholarship of the „Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes“ (German study foundation for highly talented students), Wolfgang Gubisch was awarded his doctorate (PhD) in 1972.
Wolfgang Gubisch has been working in the field of plastic surgery since 1974 - with the focus on facial surgery. He started his practical training in plastic surgery with Prof. E. Schmid, Prof. H. Reichert and Prof. H. Widmaier at the Marienhospital in Stuttgart, the oldest and largest clinic for plastic surgery in Germany.
In 1976 he changed to the ENT University Clinic in Tübingen, where he worked till 1979, in order to acquire special skills in facial surgery. After obtaining his recognition as ENT specialist, he returned to the Clinic for Plastic Surgery at the Marienhospital in Stuttgart, where he underwent the medical training in plastic surgery.
In 1988 he became Head of the Clinic for Plastic Surgery at the Marienhospital in Stuttgart.
After his habilitation at the University of Würzburg in 1992, he was appointed to an APL professorship in August 1999.
In 2001, in order to do justice to the demand for an increasing specialization, the clinic was divided into three independent and highly specialized clinics. Wolfgang Gubisch became Head of the Clinic for Plastic Facial Surgery with the focus on aesthetic, functional and reconstructive nasal surgery.
He regularly gives training courses in aesthetic and functional rhinoplasty all over the world and demonstrates his surgical techniques. He has written more than 170 scientific publications and has produced five educational films.
He is member of many national and international societies of plastic surgery as well as an honorary member of the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, the Australian Society of Plastic Surgery as well as the Armenian Association of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons and the Association of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons of Southern Africa.
He is holding the gold medal of the All India Rhinology Society for special achievements in rhinosurgery.
Since 2008 he has been Chairman of the German Society of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons for Baden Württemberg (DGPRÄC), and since 2009 he has also been member of the Board of Directors of the German Society of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (DGPRÄC).
From 2007 to 2010 Prof. Gubisch was Vice President of the Association of German Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (VDÄPC), and in June 2010 he was appointed President of this organisation.
