Coleman Sydney
Dr. Sydney Reese Coleman is a board certified plastic surgeon who has been practicing in Manhattan since 1986 and is an assistant clinical professor at NYU-Langone Medical Center. He is best known as the originator of a successful method for grafting fat. To describe his technique of fat grafting he trademarked the term LipoStructure® (alternatively referred to as Structural Fat Grafting, Coleman Fat Grafting or the Coleman Technique)
Since 1988, Dr. Coleman has given presentations on fat grafting at scientific meetings throughout the world and has published extensively. Through these publications and lectures, he has inspired physicians to create or restore fullness to rejuvenate and adjust proportions of the face and body. Once a controversial procedure, fat grafting is now widely used by aesthetic and reconstructive surgeons worldwide.
Soon after his first successful attempts at fat grafting, he observed an improvement in the quality of aging or sun-damaged skin. Later he witnessed the reversal of pathological conditions such as scarring, therapeuticradiation injury and steroid atrophy after fat grafting. There is now evidence that the stem cells or messengers resident in all fat tissues aid in the repair of tissues by bringing in a new blood supply or by directly affecting damaged or aging structures. As such, fat may be a repair organ for the body.
To improve the technical aspects of fat grafting, and to study the regenerative potential of adipose tissue, Dr. Coleman is actively involved in research projects with the Department of Defense, NYU-Langone Medical Center, the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, and other facilities.
